CHOOSING AN AGENT

If you don’t already have a relationship with a realtor, do some research, ask a friend or neighbor for a referral or schedule some interviews.

Every market is different and resort communities are especially unique.  Your agent should be very familiar with the local inventory, the current market in that area, have a good relationship with other local agents and be successful at closing deals. In a competitive market, a knowledgable agent is crucial.

Be sure to hire an agent who you communicate well with and who is willing and able to answer any and all questions that you might have about the home purchasing process. Your agent should truly listen to you and have a good understanding of your wants and needs for your new home. 

Look for a Realtor®, rather than simply just a real estate agent. Agents who are designated as Realtors® are part of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and are required to adhere to a strict code of ethics during every transaction. The best agent is not the sales guy who just tells you what you want to hear.  You want an agent who is able and willing to give you good and sound advice to help you successfully navigate the market and make decisions that are right for you.   

Ultimately, you should choose an agent you trust and the one you believe will have your best interests in mind.  Be cautious of agents who make you sign a contract binding you to them before you get a chance to know them.
